From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brooklyn noise pop band Sleigh Bells, indie rock group The National, and Sri Lankan-born rapper M.I.A. continue to be the top three most blogged acts on The Hype Machine on May 18. Among acts that have climbed into the top ten this week are Brookyn rock band Yeasayer, and Seattle-based singer/songwriter Damien Jurado.

Following the February release of its critically acclaimed second album Odd Blood, Yeasayer is again generating buzz as the band performs live dates around North American and Europe, including at New York City's Webster Hall, at a surprise venue in San Francisco, and, coming up, in London, Barcelona, and The Netherlands. Bloggers are also sharing tracks from Odd Blood and remixes of the band's single "O.N.E." by Glasnost, Crystal Vision, and Clouds.

Damien Jurado has been performing a recording folk-based music since 1995, and he most recently released an LP with his brother Drake in late February. On May 25, the singer will release his tenth solo album, Saint Bartlett, and he has just shared the track "Cloudy Shoes" from that album. Pop Headwound (popheadwound.blogspot.com) writes, "'Cloudy Shoes' finds producer Richard Swift draping Jurado's melancholy longings in a dreamy, almost Soft Bulletin-like arrangement that works beautifully."
