From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Brooklyn noise pop band Sleigh Bells is the most blogged act on The Hype Machine on May 3, as bloggers discuss and share the band's new single "Tell 'Em." British rapper M.I.A. (whose record label counts Sleigh Bells among its signed artists) is in second, while dance-punk act LCD Soundsystem is in third. Kelis and The Books are both new to the top ten.

American R&B singer-songwriter Kelis became known worldwide with her 2003 album Tasty, which included hit single "Milkshake." In early April the artist premiered a video for her David Guetta-produced track "Accapella," her first single off upcoming album Flesh Tone. That track is back in the blogs with a remix by Paris-based duo Acid Washed, which Disco Belle (www.discobelle.net) calls "a leisurely stroll down French styled house/disco lane."

The Books are a New York musical duo whose style is a combination of electronic and folk. The two - guitarist and vocalist Nick Zammuto and cellist Paul de Jong - are set to release a fourth studio album, The Way Out, and have just leaked the song "Beautiful People" from that album. No Genre (www.nogenremusic.com) writes, "it's the same kind of hypnotically gentle sound collage that made The Lemon of Pink and Thought for Food such indespensible albums."
