From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

New York indie trio The Beets is a hot topic in the music blogosphere with the release of a new track from upcoming album Let the Poison Out. London-born musician Elena Tonra, whose stage name is Daughter, also claims a top spot in The Hype Machine's most blogged artists chart on September 23.

The Beets, said to "inhabit the rawer end of the garage rock spectrum" ( Mad Mackerel), recently signed to the label Hardly Art and are expected to release their third studio album on October 24. "Perhaps the vocals aren't as pristine as similarly minded bands, but that doesn't apply [to] the great melodies the band has crafted over the last several years," reviews blogger Austin Town Hall. The group recently dropped the track "Doing As I Do" from the new album.

Daughter recently released the first single, "Love," off of her forthcoming The Wild Youth EP, set for a November 21 release. "A few months ago I was enamored with the His Young Heart EP, and now I'm looking forward to hearing even more songs that stem from a vicious heartbreak," writes blogger New Music Collaborative.
