Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.London-based duo Monarchy continues to be The Hype Machine's most blogged act of the moment on June 10, as the act's new track called "Love Get Out of My Way" makes its way around the blogosphere. New York City band The Drums is in second place, followed by Los Angeles-based avant-garde musician Ariel Pink and his band Haunted Graffiti.
In 2003, Ariel Pink became the first artist to be signed to the record label of experimental band Animal Collective, an association that helped him gain a cult following. Known for his lo-fi sound, Pink formed the band Haunted Graffiti in 2008 to support his act and, a year later, signed to the larger label 4AD. The act's first album on 4AD, Before Today, has just been released and is being reviewed by bloggers and other music journalists.
Re-entering the top ten is Japandroids, a garage-rock/noise-pop band from Vancouver whose first album, 2009's Post-Nothing, earned spots on Pitchfork and Spin magazines' "best of 2009" lists. The band has just shared an mp3 of the latest in a planned series of five limited-edition singles. "Younger Us" is due out July 20 on vinyl with a B-side cover of X's "Sex And Dying In High Society." Many bloggers are calling the single "nostalgic" for its references to early-2000s power pop. I Rock Cleveland (blog.irockcleveland.com) writes, "the hooks here...are clean and crisp, the chorus is big, immediate, and memorable, and its sentiment is universal."
