Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kanye West, Deerhunter, and Duck Sauce are the most popular acts in the blogosphere according to The Hype Machine on September 30. Spanish artist El Guincho jumps five positions into number four, while New York trio School of Seven Bells reenters the top ten with a fresh remix.
Deerhunter holds the number two slot after the release of its album Halcyon Digest on September 27, although bloggers have been circulating the album's leaked tracks for weeks. Music blog The Mad Decent just posted a free download of a remix of the album's first single, "Helicopter," by DJ Diplo and producer Lunice - and the track is receiving rave reviews from music fans. Pitchfork (pitchfork.com) writes that it "makes ample use of all the empty space in the original track, filling it with twerked-up synth beeps and warm ambient hums."
New in the day's top ten is School of Seven Bells, a three-piece "dream pop" band from New York that includes a set of identical twins. The musicians recently teamed up with Los Angeles-based songwriter Pat Grossi, known as Active Child, for a remix of their track "Heart Is Strange," downloadable via the band's label Lefse. Live for the Funk (www.liveforthefunk.com) reviews: "The result is nothing short of amazing, as Active Child strips down the track's original synth-propelled force and gives it a swirl of harp and vocal arrangements, all centered around a slow drum-machine beat."
