From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Atlanta indie rock band Deerhunter maintains its lead as the hottest act in the blogosphere, with rapper Kanye West and DJ duo Duck Sauce in second and third place, according to The Hype Machine, October 4. Also, veteran musician Brian Eno claims a spot in the top ten after the release of a new single.

Deerhunter holds steady in its blog popularity after the release of its album Halcyon Digest on September 27. Bloggers have also been circulating a remix of the album's first single, "Helicopter," by DJ Diplo and producer Lunice. Music blog Squeegie (squeegiesounds.com) writes that Lunice "takes Deerhunter's 'Helicopter' to a delightful place, with lead singer Bradford Cox's vocals pitted against a backdrop that is equal parts Miami Vice and dirty sound crunk."

Brian Eno, co-founder of the art rock group Roxy Music and producer of recordings by David Byrne, U2, and Robert Fripp, is in the blogs after releasing the first single from his long-awaited upcoming album, Small Craft on a Milk Sea, which drops November 2. For the new track, "2 Forms of Anger," Eno recruited the aid of guitarist Leo Abrahams and composer Jon Hopkins. "This is one man that won't release a record just for the sake of it," blogs Off the Radar (www.offtheradarmusic.com). "The layering with use of drone bits and improvisational chords creates a texture that leaves the song lingering in your room, making you ache for more."
