Ariana Grande pays tribute to 'dearest friend' Mac Miller, one week after his death

Singer Ariana Grande has posted a tribute on social media to her “dearest friend” and former partner Mac Miller one week after his death.

The US rapper was found dead at his home in Los Angeles last week aged 26, following a reported overdose.

Grande, 25, posted a short video on her Instagram account of Miller laughing while the pair had dinner together.

In a caption next to the video, she wrote: “I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will.

“I can't believe you aren't here anymore. I really can't wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times.

“I'm so mad, I'm so sad I don't know what to do. You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else.

“I'm so sorry I couldn't fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you're okay now. Rest.”

In the video, Miller wore a black hoodie with the slogan “Everything will be OK” emblazoned on the front.

He appeared to be telling a humorous story to Grande but stopped and laughed when he realised she was filming him.

Grande could be heard saying: “It makes me happy.” Miller replied: “I'll tell you the story as many times as you want.”

Grande and Miller dated for about two years before breaking up earlier this year.

Shortly after they parted ways, Grande responded to a fan on Twitter who criticised her for dumping him and said their relationship had been “toxic”.

She tweeted: “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be.

“I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man's inability to keep his s*** together is a very major problem.”

Miller performed with Grande at a memorial concert following the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing and the pair released music together before their split earlier this year.

A coroner in California confirmed earlier this week confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been carried out, but further tests would be required to determine how he died.

In a statement, his family said Miller was a “bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans”.

Ed Sheeran, Drake, Chance The Rapper and Post Malone were among a stream of stars to pay tribute to the “great talent”, who released his fifth studio album, Swimming, in August.
