From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Paterson, New Jersey native was one of the most anticipated acts of Power 105.1’s Powerhouse 2015. Fetty admitted that he was nervous to performas he sat in a giant, golden throne with his leg propped up.
"This muh-f**ka hurts like a b**ch," he said, with a Louis Vuitton scarf draped over his injured leg.
Sure enough, Fetty said that nothing would keep him from performing for his fans nearly 25-miles from his hometown.
The self-described “long haired, one-eyed n***a" who debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, said he largely owes his success to fans of "Trap Queen," inevitably the hottest song of Summer 2015.
French Montana would later join the Remy Boyz on stage to support Fetty and likely promote the pair's upcoming mixtape collaboration Coke Zoo. French also paid tribute to the late rapper Chinx, 31-year-old Lionel Pickens, who was fatally shot in Queens earlier this year.
Fetty capped his performance by standing up and showing love to his fans, saying that he would stand up for them as doctors gave him another five weeks before he's able to begin walking again.
The rappers were just two of several big name acts at the concert series including Future, Big Sean, Fetty Wap, Meek Mill, Jeremih, Jidenna and Omarion.
