Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The American musician, whose creative ambition is to bridge cultural gaps, says: "I hope you get a lot of laughs out of it! I spent five days choreographing and rehearsing it and I think it came out smashingly. Laughter is the best medicine and I wanted to make a video that would bring that out in our global Tribe. So, why not make something that I'm SO not good at!
"I am definitely not a dancer, but I can certainly be silly. It was pretty hard to choreograph, I'll be honest. I didn't know the first thing about it. But, the third day in I began to block things and it came together by the end! Enjoy!

Q&A with Nahko Bear
What are you listening to at the moment?
I'm actually doing laundry and listening to 2 Arabesques L 66: No 1 in E Major by Claude Debussy !
What are your plans for 2018?
We have a pretty big tour lining up as an opener with one of my favourite rock bands. Not sure I can say the name yet, but it's going to be a great summer of new territory and melody. A big focus on raising the vibration of all the places we travel with our music, intention, and action. The country needs it and so does our planet. A lot of horseback riding, hopefully too!
What was the first gig you ever played and what’s been the best so far?
The first gig...had to have been at the Gresham Little Theater in Oregon when I was 16! I was so nervous and weird and shy. Best gig so far...that's hard. However, this past spring we had a very powerful exchange at Cali Roots Festival in Monterey California. I left saying it was the best so far. The vibe was so high. The container was so filled with power and love.
