Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Tom Barman, known predominantly for his work as the frontman for dEUS, has embarked on a decidedly different topic in the way of TaxiWars.

A longtime jazz fan, he put together a band with saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierrre, and releasing their debut album which was performed in tiny jazz venues and larger clubs around Europe.

We're premiering the superb video to go with their new track 'Bridges', off their new album Fever, check it out below:

Tom Barman says of 'Bridges' and on his bandmate Robin Verheyen’s contribution: "When I heard Robin play that sax melody, I immediately pictured a romantic French film from the early sixties. You know the one where two lovers drive a convertible by the sea, straight to the edge of love. A late, summer breeze. No hint of winter yet. They stop in a village where a jazz band is playing and she says: 'I know this song.'

One of TaxiWars’s most ardent fans is Ashley Kahn, New York concert promotor, jazz educator, and one of the most influential jazz writers on the planet: "I already knew dEUS, but I love TaxiWars. They combine lyrics, poetry and jazz with a rock intensity – it reminds me of New York’s answer to hip-hop in the late eighties.

"They are not replicating it; they are drawing from that same kind of energy. It’s great."

Fever by TaxiWars is out now via Universal Jazz. They play Latest Music Bar in Brighton on 26 October and Servant Jazz Quarters in London on 27 October
