Evelyn Glennie and Melvyn Bragg introduce the ceremony and concert, with the English Chamber Orchestra; and winners - including the Personality of the Year voted for by readers of this paper - will attend and also perform. Other awards were decided by an international panel of judges under the chairmanship of Andreas Whittam Smith, editor of the Independent.
Readers are offered a 30 per cent discount on tickets for the gala evening, which starts at 7.30pm: pounds 35 tickets at pounds 24.50, pounds 25 at pounds 17.50, and pounds 15 at pounds 10.50 (subject to a small booking fee - call 071-403 3331, quoting this offer). BBC 2 broadcasts the Awards next Saturday, and a full report will be published in the following Monday's paper.
