Over the weekend, Rose McGowan criticised actresses intending on attending the Golden Globes wearing all black clothing to protest sexual harassment in Hollywood.
“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black Golden Globes in a silent protest,” she wrote on Twitter.
“YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly and affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa.”
The womenswear company Marchesa was co-created by Georgina Chapman, the ex-wife of Harvey Weinstein, while the “Pig Monster” jab would seemingly be an attack on the producer.

Weinstein has apologised for having “caused a lot of pain” but has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.

Harvey Weinstein: his accusers Annabella Sciorra The Sopranos actor alleged Weinstein raped her after shooting The Night We Never Met, a 1993 movie that Weinstein produced. Similar to the stories told by other women, Weinstein drove the actor home, only to reportedly burst into Sciorra's apartment and start unbuttoning his shirt. “He shoved me onto the bed, and he got on top of me,” Sciorra said. “I kicked and I yelled.” Weinstein then allegedly locked her arms and forced sexual intercourse on her. After the incident, Sciorra found it increasingly hard to get work, many filmmakers saying 'We heard you were difficult', something the actor claims was because of the 'Weinstein-machine'.

She told a press conference in New York that she felt pressured into telling Weinstein she was staying at the Sanderson Hotel after being put on the spot. Malthe, now 43, said after her shift on February 10 she went back to her room and went to sleep, but was awoken by "repeated pounding" on her door, from someone yelling: "Open the door Natassia Malthe, it's Harvey Weinstein." Feeling humiliated, she said she opened the door. She alleged Weinstein began implying sex would get her a role in an upcoming film while semi-undressed and then he began to masturbate. "I was sitting on the bed talking to Harvey when he pushed me back and forced himself onto me. It was not consensual. He did not use a condom," she said.

"My basic response was, 'You know, Harvey, I really don’t think you should be pulling that thing out, it’s not very pretty.'" Young never worked with Weinstein again after the incident.

But she said shortly after it started he "insisted" in front of his children that she follow him and she was led to his bedroom. The Kenyan-Mexican actress, now 34, said she felt pressured into giving him a massage after he offered her one. "Before long he said he wanted to take off his pants," she wrote."I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable. He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that." Over the years that followed, he continued to get in touch, Nyong'o said, and when she declined another proposition she felt her career was threatened.

She alleges that, when Weinstein invited her to his hotel room to show her a script, the "energy shifted.” The actor notes how, after saying she was not interesting in anything but the work, Weinstein was furious, apparently marching her back to a lift, "grabbing and holding tightly to the back of [her] arm." She claims that, after paying for her car, he whispered in her ear: "Don't tell anyone about this, not your manager, not your agent.” Headey finished the post, writing: “I got in the car and I cried.”

“It hurt to be attacked by Rose McGowan in banner headlines this weekend,” Streep said, “but I want to let her know I did not know about Weinstein’s crimes, not in the 90s when he attacked her, or through subsequent decades when he proceeded to attack others.
“I wasn’t deliberately silent. I didn’t know. I don’t tacitly approve of rape. I didn’t know. I don’t like young women being assaulted. I didn’t know this was happening.”
Streep then spoke about never being invited to Weinstein’s hotel room, like so many other women were, adding how she was unaware of his behaviour.
“Weinstein needed us not to know this, because our association with him bought him credibility, an ability to lure young, aspiring women into circumstances where they would be hurt,” Streep said.
“He needed me much more than I needed him and he made sure I didn’t know.”
Streep finished the statement saying McGowan — who has previously been a vocal critic of Streep — had made untrue assumptions but hoped the pair would not be adversaries.
“We are both, together with all the women in our business, standing in defiance of the same implacable foe: a status quo that wants so badly to return to the bad old days, the old ways where women were used, abused and refused entry into the decision-making, top levels of the industry.
“That’s where the cover-ups convene. Those rooms must be disinfected, and integrated, before anything even begins to change.”
Time's person of the year revealed to be 'The Silence Breakers' McGowan alleged back in October that Weinstein had raper her (accusations the disgraced mogul denies). Since she came forward, McGowan has used her platform to share stories by other women, and call out other men accused of sexual harassment and assault.
She has previously called out Streep on Twitter. In response to the esteemed actor’s comments calling Weinstein’s actions “the most gargantuan example of disrespect”, McGowan wrote: “No, Meryl, IT’S A FUCKING CRIME. You are such a lie.”
The Golden Globes take place on the 7 January.
