Sir: The Bob Dylan quote in Thought for the Day (19 August) needs completion: "There's no success like failure ... and failure's no success at all."

It was a good quote for the day A-level results were published. Once again, teachers and students are allowed no success. When results improve, the examinations are too easy; when they worsen, there's a fall in standards.
