Sir: Many things must be held to be disputable. One thing, however, is not, and that is that contamination of the land by long-term radioactive materials is wholly unacceptable. Any use of such materials ought to be treated as a war crime. Nato should publicly pledge and substantiate that depleted uranium has not been and will not be employed in munitions.
