Sir: With fewer than 40 shopping days left until Christmas when some of us turn our minds to perhaps the most famous pregnant woman ever, I can't help but find it surprising that people continue to be so insensitive towards pregnant women.

I am 27 weeks pregnant with twins. I have been reduced to tears on my journey home on the London Northern Line as not-so-plump fellow passengers push and jostle past me, frantic to cram into every possible space on the train. Apparently fit, young men do not offer their seats, even though I would very much like to take the weight off my legs.
