Sir: Tobacco sponsors of Formula 1 could at least claim that the great cost of the cars and their equipment needed huge sums of money. Snooker does not ("Exemption on tobacco cash provokes fury", 31 May). The replacement of tobacco companies by some other, less lavish sponsor would only mean that the top players would earn half-millions instead of millions.
