Sir: So the Bishop of Oxford thinks it doesn't matter whether " what the gospels record as happening did happen" and whether the three kings and the shepherds behaved as the Christmas story relates.
But it does matter. For if the early Christian evangelists invented stories about kings and shepherds, were they not also capable of inventing the "foundational events" which the bishop considers to be so crucial?
