Sir: When two companies charge different prices for similar products this is described as competition, and thought to be a good thing. If they agree to charge the same price, the arrangement is called a cartel, and is illegal. But when two governments charge different tax rates this tax competition is described as "harmful", and the tax-fixing agreement is called "harmonisation". Is there no end to the double standards of politicians?
