Letter: Schools for the rich

Sir: Lower-achieving pupils are not getting as much attention as they should because they are considered to be of a lower academic standard ("Exam underclass revealed by GCSEs", 26 August). They are also not being offered the same GCSEs as others to make sure the pass rate stays high.

At my former high school, children with a lower academic record are not even allowed to take traditional subjects such as geography, history or French. Those not allowed to study their option are put into an option support group, not to study but to have driving lessons and lots of other fun things!

League tables have a lot to answer for as schools abandon under-achieving pupils.
