Sir: I'm sure the people of Aberdeen are now greatly cheered up by Jack O'Sullivan's charming portrayal of their city. What a blessing he visited.

My own impression of the place is somewhat different. I spent a very happy year in Aberdeen as a postgrad, and have fond memories of a lovely city and a people friendly, helpful and oh yes ... generous.
