Sir: What justification can there be in awarding a civilian bravery honour to a paramilitary-type organisation whose initials have become associated with the worst excesses of bigotry, sectarianism, orchestrated violence and intimate collusion with like-minded terrorist organisations ("Award of George Cross to RUC prompts Sinn Fein protest", 24 November). A discredited (why else would it be heading for reincarnation?) part of the problem. Certainly, in its present form, not part of the solution.
