Sir: More non-religious officers in the RUC might well be beneficial, as Marilyn Mason proposed (letter, 14 September). But this will be difficult to achieve, given that church membership per capita in the province is over eight times that of England. These figures suggest at least one reason why the peace process is proving so intractable.
