Sir: The President of the Law Society castigates the present system for the appointment of QCs and judges (report, 28 September). He claims the system is nothing more than an old boy network which serves the interests of a small number of lawyers. He may well be right. Can he explain, however, how this differs from the activities of the Law Society and its various councils, committees and so-called disciplinary and supervisory bodies?
