Your support makes all the difference.Sir: Far from being unlikely to deliver our pledge to reduce infant class sizes to 30 or below by the next election (leading article, 9 January), we have already made substantial progress and we expect that most schools will meet that pledge by September 2000, over a year ahead of schedule, with the remainder doing so by September 2001.
More than 100,000 infants are already in smaller classes as a result of money invested in teachers and classrooms. We have already allocated pounds 67m and over the next three years we will allocate a further pounds 560m to meet the pledge in full.
