Sir: Whatever one's views on the Pinochet affair, we should be grateful that attention has been drawn to Lord Hoffmann's connection with Amnesty International. It seems uncomfortably possible that a senior member of the judiciary supports human rights and is opposed to torture. Worse, it appears that he does this for no remuneration and may even permit these sentiments to influence his judgement. If this is true of one of them, might it not be true of others? I think we should be told.
