Sir: Like many commuters, I will be unable to vote in next Thursday's local elections. The polling times, 8am to 9pm, are considerably shorter than general election times. This will skew the vote considerably in the commuter towns. Why can't the same long hours be used as for a general election in the "flexible society"? We have 24-hour banking but only 13- hour democracy.
