Letter: Kosovo criminals

Sir: Dejan Kuga questions the plausibility of the alleged torture and murder of Dr Lec Ukaj by Serbian forces in Kosovo (letter, 12 October). But given those atrocities for which we do have evidence - and he cannot so easily deny the authenticity of photographs of children with their throats cut - why does he think it so implausible?

Of course the vast majority of Serbs are "normal human beings", as horrified at the inhumanities committed in their name as we are, but nonetheless such atrocities are happening, documented by independent bodies including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Furthermore, the Yugoslav authorities have recently refused to allow members of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia into Kosovo to investigate, claiming that the tribunal has no jurisdiction over war crimes committed there.
