Sir: I am astonished that your correspondence columns have not so far reflected an immediate revulsion for the swing in US and British policy towards the overthrow of Saddam Hussein following the abortion of the planned air attack upon Iraq.

Britain should align itself with the wiser policy of the French government and reject the presumption of the US that it has the right, and the capability, to determine the internal affairs of an independent state.

To our own Prime Minister we should say, in the words of Cromwell to those high-minded Scots who sought to impose their will upon England in 1650: "I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, to think it possible that you may be mistaken."
