Sir: David Aaronovitch's "Wicked, banal, evil - but is there a bit of Eichmann in all of us?" (Review, 13 August) raises the question whether Britain is capable of committing genocide. It seems that the answer is yes.

The draconian sanctions imposed on Iraq for the last nine years have devastated the county's civil infrastructure and caused the death of 500,000 children .

One can only hope that should the British people become fully aware of the consequences of their government's policy towards Iraq, the genocidal sanctions in their present punitive form would be lifted.
