Letter: Hunting is no crime

Sir: I fear that those who wish to see hunting banned do not realise the number of hounds that would have to be destroyed. This did not happen when otter-hunting was stopped as they were changed to mink-hunting.

The actual destruction would pose problems, as hunt servants would find it impossible to massacre their charges and many vets would recoil from the task.

"Domestication" of such numbers of large dogs would be impossible. The cost of food would be prohibitive and dogs that had lived a pack existence all their lives would be very unhappy in a family home and might become vicious.

The electorate would be shocked when they saw what was being done in their name and Alastair Campbell's skills would be sorely tried.
