Sir: The Government should follow the precedent set by New Zealand and remove all subsidies to farmers. The NZ government did this after the UK joined the EU. This initially caused chaos, some bankruptcies and hardship. But now New Zealand farming has found new areas to develop, changed its dependence on lamb and butter products and is very profitable. The UK government should grasp the nettle and within two years UK farming would be back on top.
