Letter: England's shame
Sir: Rather than flying home the England team after the Marseilles riots (leading article, 16 June) a more constructive gesture might be for a body such as the Football Supporters Association to co-ordinate an appeal for decent, law-abiding football fans to donate a small sum of money to be sent to Marseilles to aid in the clean-up operation. In this way the fans could clearly dissociate themselves from the organised violence and express their sympathy and shame, helping to rebuild bridges between the English and French.
