Sir: Pinochet's arrest exposes once more the hypocrisy of the international community. The same people who were screaming murder about a military man committing atrocities in Bosnia are asking for the release of Pinochet.

It seems that in this brave new world we have two standards for people committing genocide. As long as they do not hurt US interests, they are free to overthrow democratically elected governments, butcher and torture people and "vote" immunity for themselves. If, on the other hand, they oppose US interests, they are promptly punished either in person like the Serbian army personnel, or the whole country suffers, like Iraq.
