Sir: The front page of The Independent on 6 October contained a leading article arguing for immediate Nato action to stop the Serbs from murdering more people who cannot protect themselves. Page 5 of the same paper contained an appeal from the RSPCA, which asked for pounds 10 donations to stop the killing of stray dogs in Sarajevo.

I wonder which of these appeals for charity in the Balkans will receive the greater response.
