Today's picture which can be seen for nothing is a detail from a series entitled 'Majdanek 1988' by Israel Kantor, inspired by a visit to the site of the Majdanek death camp and a return to the haunts of his childhood in Poland. Kantor began painting late in life, and his regret about this has led to a burst of intense activity. He has developed an evocative minimalist style, using tones of deep blue to create powerful landscapes. (Concourse, Barbican, EC2, 071-438 4141, to 18 Sept; Sun 12 noon-11pm, Mon-Sat 9am-11pm.)
