Each week in this space we reproduce a picture which can be seen for free on a Sunday. This week: Joseph Mallord William Turner's 'Decline of the Carthaginian Empire', painted in 1817 and clearly showing Turner's debt to Claude Lorraine (1600-82). The painting is one of the highlights of the Tate's 'Essential Turner' exhibition, a selection of works usually housed in the Clore Gallery (which is closed for refurbishment until 5 Oct). (Tate Gallery, Millbank, SW1, 071-887 8000; 2-5.50pm Sun, 10am-5.50pm Mon-Sat; admission free.)
