The game update arrives amid a bitter legal dispute between Epic and tech giant Apple, which saw Fortnite removed from the App Store.
As it stands, players on iOS devices will be unable to access the latest update for the hit battle royale game.
However, for everybody else, the new Battle Pass update promises a host of new character skins and more, following on from the aquatic-themed season three.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season of Fortnite...
When does season 4 begin?
Epic has confirmed multiple times that the fourth season of this Fortnite chapter will launch on Thursday, 27 August.
A specific time for the update has yet to be announced, but Epic typically schedule the downtime during the early hours of the morning, to limit the impact on most players’ game experience.
What’s the theme for Fortnite season 4?
All signs point towards a crossover with Marvel for season four of Fortnite.
The rumour first gained traction when the official Fortnite Twitter account posted emojis representing a hammer, a lightning bolt and a rainbow, which players have interpreted as relating to Thor (his hammer, his powers, and Asgard’s rainbow-coloured Bifrost).
The Fortnite logo posted alongside the tweets announcing the season four launch date also included an image of the Norse superhero, seemingly taken from the first issue of a new Thor comic book series released in January.
Fortnite has crossed over with superhero properties before, including tie-ins with both Marvel and DC film releases, so a Thor crossover would not be without precedent.
Data miners have claimed that the new season of Fortnite will also feature a Wolverine character skin, and collectable comic book pages dotted around the map.
Will Fortnite chapter 2 season 4 be available on iOS and Android?
Due to the ongoing legal battle between Epic and Apple, iPhone users will be unable to download the latest Fortnite update.
Android users can still access the latest version of the game, however, despite Google banning Fortnite from its own app store, the Google Play Store.
To download, players must go directly to the Epic Games Store or the Samsung Galaxy Store.
