From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. On April 30, movie releases in the US include a revision of a classic horror film featuring Freddy Krueger, a family adventure with Brendan Fraser, and a thriller starring Michael Caine.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
This resurrection of the 1980s iconic horror film follows a disfigured killer who attacks people in their dreams, which turn into reality. This reboot of the story looks back at how Freddy Krueger became a monster.

James Earle Haley ( Shutter Room, Watchmen) replaces Robert Englund who portrayed the notorious Krueger through eight installments until 2003. This version is directed by Samuel Bayer, known for directing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" videos.

Furry Vengeance
When a new housing development pushes into the pristine wilderness, a clever raccoon and band of angry critters attack the real estate developer. This family comedy with an environmental theme stars Brendan Fraser ( The Mummy movies, Crash), Brooke Shields and Dick Van Dyke. The website (www.takepart.com/furryvengeance) offers games and activity guides for children to learn about endangered animals, protecting wild habitats and making a wildlife-friendly garden.

Harry Brown

A law-abiding retired Marine reaches his breaking point when his best friend is killed by neighborhood thugs. Starring Michael Caine ( The Dark Knight, Sleuth) and Emily Mortimer ( Shutter Island, The Pink Panther), this thriller was released in the UK in late 2009, gathering interest at several film festivals including Toronto and SXSW.
