Star Wars super fan spends £150,000 turning home into sci-fi shrine
On the outside it appears to be a normal semidetached house in Southampton but inside holds a shrine to the Star Wars franchise.
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Star Wars super fan Dave Oldbury has spent £150,000 on his Star Wars collection which includes a huge array of toys, posters, action figures and life-sized cardboard cut-outs of your favourite characters.
The 46-year-old has travelled the world collecting thousands of autographs from members of the cast and crew.
Rules of the house
Light saber usage restricted to outdoors only;
Don't use the side passage. That path leads to the Dark side;
Droids must have their restraining bolts on at all times;
Do or do not there is no try;
Always let the wookie win.
Mr Oldbury’s love does not stop with the tangible; he even has tattoos of the iconic characters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.
The super fan is now offering the chance for fans to enter the dark side for £35 per night.
Advertised on Homestay, Mr Oldbury’s description of his shrine reads: ‘I'm offering any Padawan the chance to stay with me December 4th and 5th and enjoy my incredible collection just before the new Star Wars film is released. Trust your feelings when booking a room and may the force be with you….’
