The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (18)
A group of all-American teenagers encounter a bloodthirsty cannibalistic family off the beaten track in Texas, resulting in a film so terrifying the uncut version was not approved for general distribution in the UK until 1999, 25 years after it was made.
Chainsaw-wielding Leatherface remains one of the most disturbing characters in horror. Digital remastering has not dulled the eery, grainy, clunky terror of the 16mm version – director Tobe Hooper trapped a suffocating depravity in TCSM that film-makers have struggled to copy ever since. The collection includes interviews with Hooper and writer Kim Henkel.
