This French psychodrama hinges on a fiendishly intricate revenge. A gifted young pianist, Melanie (Déborah François) flunks her big exam owing to the thoughtless behaviour of the chairwoman, Ariane (Catherine Frot), a famous concert pianist. Ten years later and armed with a plan, Melanie insinuates herself first into Ariane's family and thence her professional entourage: "A page turner can throw everything off balance," remarks her employer, little suspecting how accurate the observation will prove.

Writer-director Denis Dercourt subtly intensifies the atmosphere of foreboding before he delivers a double sucker punch which, despite a rather convenient sexual tension, reverberates thrillingly.
