With endless TV airtime, buying a DVD of The Simpsons hardly feels like an essential purchase, especially with the 13th season being from 2001-2.
That said, there's lots to enjoy, with 22 episodes of typically short and sharp, surreal and smart entrainment. Plotlines take their usual wiggles and unlikely adventures. There's geriatric love afoot for both Mr Burns and Grandpa Simpson, while the traditional Hallowe'en special takes potshots at/pays homage to Harry Potter and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Another Odyssey gets the treatment, while Lisa gets to take on Joan of Arc and Bart comes over all Shakespearian as the Danish Prince in a classic.
