The first of this year's two Snow White films – the Lily Collins/Julia Roberts/Armie Hammer one – is the better of the two, but that's not saying much.

More ho-hum than heigh-ho, Mirror Mirror can't decide whether to be a child-friendly fairy tale or a subversive pastiche. Its most distinctive quality is how muted it all is, despite having a director, Tarsem Singh, who's renowned for his wildly extravagant visuals.
