Mamma Mia is 2008's biggest hit at the British box office, due largely to the singalong nights attended by women of a certain age. I'm sure those same women will make it 2008's biggest Christmas DVD, too.
Is it worth mentioning that the Abba songs don't fit the story, or that it's neither as witty nor as romantic as 'Muriel's Wedding', or that Meryl Streep and co belt out their numbers as if they're joining in at home after an evening on the ouzo? Probably not.
