Did you know that Canada, not the Middle East, is the largest supplier of oil to the US?
That's the most surprising revelation of a documentary deploring yet more eco-crime: the extraction of oil from the tar sands of Alberta, the rape of arboreal forests and the pollution of soil and rivers. Inevitably, indigenous cultures are the ones on the receiving end. The assembled evidence looks unarguable, though the film-makers rather lose focus in the latter stages, turning a serious local issue into a kind of we-are-the-world advert for wind farms, recycling, et al. But if it changes the mind of a single oil executive, all power to it.
