From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are currently lavishing in the success of their latest, Deadpool 2, which has launched into cinemas off the back of a strong critical reception.

Yet, fans can cast their minds back to the project that first put them on the map: Zombieland, the riotous horror comedy that managed to convince the legendary Bill Murray to cameo as a zombified version of himself.

Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, and Woody Harrelson all starred as a ramshackle pack of survivors attempting to cross America in the depths of a zombie apocalypse.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the film was something of a surprise hit, earning $102 million worldwide against a budget of $23.6 million.

We're headed straight for the tenth anniversary of the film, with Wernick revealing to Vulture how they intended to celebrate the milestone: "Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2."

However, the project sounds far more guaranteed than Wernick's hint would suggest, since he then added: "The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way."

“We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment,” he rounded out the tease with. “But we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.”

Deadpool 2 is out now.
