Warner Bros has unveiled its Wonder Woman sequel after many months of delay.

The film, titled Wonder Woman 1984, was originally scheduled to come out in July but was pushed back due to the pandemic.

It's the second big studio release to arrive following Christopher Nolan's Tenet – and critics have shared their first reviews of the Gal Gadot film.

Wonder Woman 1984 is the sequel to Patty Jenkins' record-breaking 2017 film, and is the first DC Extended Universe outing since Birds of Prey, starring Margot Robbie, was released in February.

Fortunately, the early reactions are extremely positive.

Wonder Woman 1984 has been called "an absolute blast from start to finish" by Fandango's Erik Davies.

Critic Courtney Howard said the sequel is "spectacularly fun", adding that it "delivers a different kind of empowering kick than the original".

Nerdist's Amy Ratcliffe concluded that the film is "what we all need", adding: “It’s uplifting, hopeful, and so utterly Wonder Woman."

Brandon Davis of Comic Book Movies said his highlights were the villains played by new cast additions Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig.

Find a selection of reactions below.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in UK cinemas on 16 December, and will be available the following week in the US on HBO Max.
