Why Tina Fey has no interest in directing
She also definitely won't be starring in a series across from SNL alumni and Golden Globes co-host Amy Poehler either

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tina Fey: actress, comedian, writer, and producer. Just don't try and get her to direct anything, she's got zero interest there.
"I just don’t understand or really care about cameras," she joked, while being interviewed by friend Damian Holbrook as part of this year's Tribeca Film Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter). Not that Fey really needs to be adding more skills to her already Renaissance-like comedic portfolio; currently basking in her lead role in Whisky Tango Foxtrot, her created series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's season 2, and her plans to turn her screenplay for Mean Girls into a Broadway musical.
She also stated that it's very unlikely she'll ever star across from her fellow SNL alumni and Golden Globes co-host Amy Poehler; "We’re regarded as a comedy team, which is certainly fine by me. But I think we both know this to be true — it’s because we’re actually both alphas. So it works in short spurts, but I don’t know if we would make a real dynasty."
Though they've starred in several films together, namely Mean Girls, Baby Mama, and last year's Sisters, Fey and Poehler have very much forged separate identities in the world of television; Fey has 30 Rock, and Poehler starred in the beloved Parks and Recreation.
Elsewhere, Fey revealed she auditioned for the role of the Baker's Wife in Disney's take on the Sondheim musical, Into the Woods. "I tried to beg my way into that movie," she joked. "That was in my weird year off between TV shows. I realized that when people say they’re gonna ‘stretch themselves,’ it just means they’re gonna annoy people." Though when asked about her audition footage she swiftly replied, "I’m sure it’s gone by now."
