A brand new documentary tracking the tumultuous life of music legend Whitney Houston has been released.
Directed by Nick Broomfield, Can I Be Me, focusing on the superstar's career and troubled marriage to Bobby Brown, promises to unveil an unparalleled look at the life and untimely passing of one of the world's most successful female artists.
Broomfield's previous credits include Biggie and Tupac, Kurt & Courtney and Aileen Wuornos documentaries The Selling of a Serial Killer (1993) and The Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2004).
Can I Be Me will contain unseen footage and live recordings from Houston's life.
Speaking to The Guardian about the project, Broomfield explained: “What we tried to do was to explain it from her point of view, so you understand what she went through at various stages of her life. The irony is that the wonderful person she actually was is so much more interesting than the image that was created around her.”
Whitney Houston: Can I Be Me will premiere 11 June with a live satellite Q&A screening follows by a special tribute performance by The Voice's Michelle John. It will be released in cinemas on 16 June.
