From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sony has released the first official teaser for their upcoming Marvel spin-off Venom, featuring Tom Hardy as the titular character.
At a minute-and-a-half, the clip shows very little of what to expect, mere glimpses at fellow cast members Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed being offered.
While we see a moving black CGI substance during the trailer, we do not see Hardy as the villainous Venom, instead remaining on a hospital table as Eddie Brock. Watch below.
The movie still does not have an official substance, but will reportedly also feature Woody Harrelson and Jenny Slate as unknown characters.
Excitement for the movie remains slightly tepid. Despite Hardy’s appeal as an actor, with Venom not being associated with Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the logistics remain unclear) Marvel fans remain wary.
Venom — the first movie in Sony’s Marvel Universe — will be followed soon after by Silver & Black, which centres on the superheroes Black Cat and Silver Sable and will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. No casting has been announced.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the movie reaches cinemas 5 October 2018.
